Formation and Patterns
| Use | Pattern | Example |
|---|---|---|
| First mention | a/an + singular count noun | I have a question. |
| Known item | the + noun | The question is easy. |
| General plural | plural noun without article | Students need practice. |
Common Mistakes
- Using a with plural nouns: say "a lesson" or "lessons," not "a lessons."
- Dropping the before a specific known noun.
- Using an by spelling instead of sound: an hour, a university.
Exceptions & Nuances
- Many abstract and uncountable nouns take no article when general: Grammar takes practice.
